New Zealand Marine Life App

01/08/2019

More help for identification of marine species is now available thanks to a new iphone and ipad app developed by Auckland Museum in association with their Moana - My Ocean exhibit.  It features 130 of the most common coastal-dwelling marine mammals, reptiles, fish, shellfish, invertebrates, seaweeds and plants.

Although the app concentrates on the Hauraki Gulf region, many of the species featured are found throughout NZ coastal waters.  The app combines combines photographs with information on each of the featured animal or plant’s biology, identifying characteristics, diet, habitat, native and endangered status. Hopefully this is a resource that will grow over time.

Download it for free from the itunes or app store.
